One effect of the election

It has come to my attention that we have a new President Elect. Though I don't think it ever became a campaign issue, one power the new President will have is the appointment of a CAAF judge. Unlike Article III judges, of course, CAAF judges sit for 15-year terms (which may be renewed). Chief Judge Effron's term expires in 2011, a little more than a year before the next presidential election. No other CAAF judge's term will expire during the 2009-2013 presidential administration.

If he loses in Minnesota, Al Franken would be a fine candidate.

Four Presidents are tied for the most appointments to CAAF of three judges each: Truman (Quinn, Latimer and Brosman), Ford (Cook, Fletcher and Perry), George H.W. Bush (Crawford, Geirke and Wiss), and George W. Bush (Erdmann, Ryan and Stucky).

Franken should be court-martialled.

Why not. Franken is as subject to the UCMJ as Denedo.

How about another judge from the staff of the Senate Armed Services Committee? Those guys know a good gig when they see one.

Ralph Nader needs something to do.

Grow up!

After Ralph Nader's "Uncle Tom" comment about the President-elect, I suspect he won't be on the short list ... or the director's cut ... for any appointment.

I sense an alarming amount of disrespect for the fine judges at CAAF. If you're a member of just about any bar, you should be a little more circumspect in your snarky comments about esteemed members of the judiciary. Judging by the knuckle-dragging nature of these despicable comments, I'd guess they emanate from USMC and Navy JAGs (but that's just based on my experience with those mouth-breathers).

Thank you for your comments, Judge Erdmann.

Another effect of the election--I think we are all about to get a refresher course on Article 88, UCMJ.

LOL, Anon 1646.

On a marginally more serious note, I wonder if this bodes well for those on the military's death row. Ronnie Gray, I'm talking about you.

Has Gray sought habeas yet in federal court? Isn't he about to get the needle soon?
